marin county

An affluent community right across the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin County is geographically located in the north of the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Notoriously home to ex-hippies and dot-com millionaires, Marin is county built on liberal ideals, eccentric, traditions, strong financial standing and panoramic natural assets.

Among the 27 founding counties of California, Marin created February 18, 1850, just a few months before California was admitted to the Union. But before that, the area was inhabited by Coast Miwok Indians. In fact legend has it that it was named after Chief Marin of the Coast Miwok, Licatiut tribe of Native Indians who led the tribe to wage fierce battles against early Spaniard explorers. Today very few are left, and even fewer are those with any knowledge of their Coast Miwok lineage, although efforts are being made so that they are not forgotten.

Environment

Attempting to balance modernity with a sound environmental management, the county’s Department of Parks and Open Spaces stresses that t parks and open space preserves are the community’s treasures, providing recreational and environmental benefits for the present and future generations. With this in mind they kept such wonders as Muir Woods redwood forest, the Marin Headlands, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Mount Tamalpais among others, not only environmentally sound but also ecologically sustainable.

Legend has it that Mountain Biking is invented in the slopes of Marin’s Mount Tamalpais. Perhaps it was so since America’s oldest cross country running event, the Dipsea Race, takes place annually in Marin County. This event attracts thousands of athletes from all over America, making it a remarkable one.

Marin is home to the George Lucas’ and Lucasfilms’ Skywalker Ranch. It is located in a private and secluded, but open space area near Nicasio, Marin County, California. And yet, the Ranch is the headquarters of the movie outfit but is intended to be more of a “filmmaker’s retreat”.

Economy

For the most part of the global economic downturn, Marin proved to be resilient, sustaining the unemployment wave until being scathe slight recently. This however created an new opportunity for those who would like to take advantage of the posh and yet ecological life that Marin offers. There are news about the Bay Area experiencing new dynamism in home markets where prices has just become affordable enough for an average person to afford without too much economic compromises. It is said that buyers now are looking for what they consider to be acceptable properties and Marin is getting the market attention.

There are people that are daunted by a place’s reputation of affluence thinking that expense may not actually compensate what it can offer. With Marin, that certainly is not the case. From nationally renowned outdoors and open spaces to the availability of some the most advanced modern amenities of today’s lifestyle to a community that encourages you to be the best of what you can be, one cannot get wrong with Marin.
